NIOT has organised an awareness rally on 27.09.2019 with the theme of \'Single use plastic free India\' as part of the Swachhatha Hi Seva movement. The Rally was flaged off by Dr. M.A.Atmanand, Director, NIOT. Around 120 students from Jerusalem Engineering College have participated along with the NIOT staff members.
New Coastal Research Vessel, Sagar Tara has been officially delivered to NIOT, Chennai at M/s TWL shipyard, Kolkata on 16th August, 2019. This ship is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and latest sophisticated Scientific Equipment & handling facilities. This ship will augment the observational and sampling capabilities of our scientific community in Indian coastal waters to a great extent.

Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India organised a side event during the 25th Session of the International Seabed Authority Council meeting. Secretary General HE Michael Lodge, Indian High Commissioner, HE Sevala Naik and other dignitaries graced the occasion. Highlights of India\'s four decades of Deep Sea Resource programme were presented.
At the IOC,UNESCO meeting on the 28th-June-2019, Dr. M.A.Atmanand, Director, MoES NIOT and chair, IOCINDIO, IOC presented the activities taken up by the body in the last biennium. He also moved the proposal to elevate the status of IOCINDIO to a sub commission which was received with overwhelming response from the member state.

Robo Boat an autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) developed by OOS NIOT was demonstrated off Chennai. This has capabilities to collect Ocean data fitted with surface and UW camera that can be manuvered remotely by 4G from Data centre CORNEA and from Shore . Useful to study River to Coast to Open Ocean and sub surface measurements.
The 34th Ex Co meeting of the IEA-OES TCP was held in Cherbourg France. Indian efforts at coordinating a multi country sub task on OTEC and preparation of a draft report was appreciated and a specific objective will be shortly identified for which India will lead the task. Countries participating in the OTEC sub task are China Japan Korea France Netherlands and Mexico
NIOT and NCCR, is celebrating “The World Oceans Day” on 8th June 2018. A special lecture on the theme Preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean would be delivered by Prof. R.
