Future vision of Mining System
It is proposed to develop an Underwater Mining system for mining of manganese nodules from a depth of 6000m at CIOB. As a stage wise development, NIOT had already developed system for 500m depth and demonstrated. This project will demonstrate the technology for mining Polymetallic nodules from CIOB with multiple Mining systems.

Remotely Operable In-situ soil teste
The optimum design of an integrated Deep-sea mining system is mainly dictated by the soil properties of sea-bed. Depending on the soil properties, the entire weight of the Mining machine is to be properly distributed, which means the sizing of the mining vehicle NIOT has already developed an Remotely Operable In-situ soil testing equipment and was tested successfully at 5200m water depth. With the experiences gained in the past testing trials it was proposed to modify the structure for decreasing the weight and reduce complexities.
