ORV Sagar Nidhi:Sagar Nidhi a state of art ice-class research vessel can accommodate 30 scientists with endurance of 45 days. This is an Ice-class research vessel adopted with Dynamic Positioning System will keep its position stable, which is required for oceanographic research. It has a huge deck area for deploying ROV/Manned submersibles/ Tsunami monitoring system. Gondola arrangement is also made for precision acoustic measurements. Drop Keel facility is made to fit any underwater transducers without dry docking the vessel. One separate lab is designed and installed with integrated survey systems with modern scientific survey equipments like single and multi beam echo sounder for shallow and deep waters, sub bottom profiler, acoustic current profiler.
The CTD Rosette is also commissioned to collect water samples at different water depths up to 6000 meter along with conductivity, temperature, density, chlorophyll, Rhodamine, salinity, pH etc profiler. Separate sampling room is built adjacent to the wet lab and geological core cutter lab. A cold room is designed to maintain up to -20 deg Celsius temperature to store the samples. An Automatic Weather Station is set up to collect and store real time weather parameters like wind speed, direction, humidity, barometric pressure, solar radiations etc. All these scientific data can be stored in server and database will be managed using Marine Data Management System, which is setup onboard. Scientific winches like hydrographic winch, CTD winch, Active heave compensation winch etc are available onboard for deployment and retrieval of scientific equipments. All winches are facilitated with 6000-meter length rope.
This vessel is also made with advanced Integrated Bridge system where all navigational related equipments are integrated with each other. E-mail sending/receiving can be done for scientists to hold continuous communications with shore. Soon this vessel will be facilitated with VSAT communication system. There is separate officer/scientists recreation room available. Modern gymnasium and sauna room also setup onboard to maintain physical fitness.

CRV Sagar Paschimi & CRV Sagar Purvi: Both CRVs can accommodate 6 scientists with an endurance of 10 days. Both the vessels have sophisticated facilities to collect the water samples at different depth, to collect core samples, sediment grab samples and other marine biological and chemical samples. The vessels have two laboratories for sample analysis and preservation. The laboratory is mainly used for sample analysis for nutrients, chlorophyll & bacterial studies etc. The lab has spectrophotometer, water purification plant, zoom stereo microscope, incubator, clean work bench and etc for onboard analysis of samples and a work computer with printer for preparation of reports. The computer is also interfaced to the equipments for data downloading. |
