Vessel Management: VMC is mainly focusing on technical management of the vessels through periodic inspections, organizing scientific facilities onboard, planning and execution of scientific program as per JSTAC guidelines, intervallic dry docking activities. VMC besides having overall control of activities related to vessel's operations, hygiene, safety, etc., ensures that all vessels fulfil the class requirements. VMC is dynamically providing technical support, safe, clean and well-resourced vessels to the scientific community.
Technical Support: VMC has a team of technical staff to assist the scientists onboard. The staffs are familiar in operating the equipments available on all vessels. During the scientific expeditions, one of VMC technical staff will be present onboard to co-ordinate with scientists and ship staff. This technical assistant will also assist scientists onboard for their various requirements. VMC staff will provide help/guidance to the young scientists in collecting/storing the data samples.
Hydrographic Survey: VMC is maintaining hydrographic survey team to operate, collect and process the different hydrographic survey equipments. VMC is also handling a MoES project ” Mapping Seabed topography of Exclusive Economic Zone of India using multi beam echo sounder systems upto 500m from shore along the entire east coast of India, Andaman & Nicobar Islands”.
Radio Communication: VMC had set up a Radio Communication centre at NIOT through which vessels are communicated at regular prescribed time intervals round the clock, which updates the status of the vessels regarding various aspects.
Inspection of Vessels: VMC is continuously monitoring the equipment conditions available on the ships and performance of the crew. The Inspection team will also inspect the quality of the food supplied, hygienic of the vessel and take necessary actions towards it.
Scientific Resources: VMC is maintaining all required resources for the scientists to acquire and analyze that data samples onboard vessels.
Safety: VMC is holding a slogan “SAFETY FIRST”
In terms of personal safety, VMC had instructed the ship’s officers to conduct safety drills onboard regularly so that scientists will get familiarized.
In the term of safety VMC is taking care of following insurance policies related to the vessels.
